PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent crystal fracture in a portion of a local polarization reversal portion facing a connecting electrode in a method for forming the local polarization reversal portion responding to the shape of a pattern electrode on a ferroelectric substance crystal by forming the pattern electrode having a prescribed pattern and the connecting electrode connected to the pattern electrode on one surface of the mono-polarized ferroelectric substance crystal and by applying an electric field through the pattern electrode to the top side and the back side of the ferroelectric substance crystal.;SOLUTION: In the method for forming the local polarization reversal portion 7 on the ferroelectric substance crystal 1 by forming the pattern electrode 2 and the connecting electrode 8 connected to the pattern electrode 2 on one surface 1a of the mono-polarized ferroelectric substance crystal 1 and by applying the electric field through the electrode 2 to the top side and the back side of the ferroelectric substance crystal 1, the electric field is applied to the top side and the back side of the ferroelectric substance crystal 1 with a state interposing an insulator 9 on a position facing at least part of the connecting electrode 8 on the other surface 1b of the ferroelectric substance crystal 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
