PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium capable of miniaturizing the whole water treatment apparatus without shortening a cycle of replacement and regeneration of the filter medium.;SOLUTION: The filter medium 7 for water treatment includes an ion exchanger as a main component. In the ion exchanger, an ion exchange group is introduced into a matrix molecule comprising any one of fullerene, its polymer and a carbon nanotube. Also, the water treatment apparatus 20 using this has an ion exchange layer 5 containing the filter medium 7 for water treatment, and carries out demineralization or salt conversion by passing raw water W1 through the ion exchange layer 5.
