PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To machine a concave surface with high accuracy while the wear of a tool is suppressed without any labor in setup even with small curvature. ;SOLUTION: A spherical surface generating device is provided with a spherical tool 4 to machine a concave surface on a work 5, a horn 3 which has a recessed holding part to hold the spherical tool 4 in a rolling manner on one end and effects the ultrasonic oscillation of the spherical tool held in the holding part by the ultrasonic wave from an ultrasonic oscillator 1, a placement table 6 to fix the work 5 opposite to the spherical tool 4 held by the horn 3, a pressing means 7 to abut the spherical tool 4 on the work 5 with a specified load, a measuring means 8 to measure the displacement of the placement table 6 or the spherical tool 4 generated during the machining by the spherical tool 4, and a working fluid feeding means 10 to feed a working fluid 9 with abrasive grains dispersed to an interface between the work 5 and the spherical tool 4 during the machining by the spherical tool 4. The setup of the small curvature is effected only by changing the grain size of the abrasive grains, the wear of the tool is reduced, and the work is machined with high accuracy.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
