The exhaust purification device has a catalytic converter(30) purifying noxious materials in exhaust gas; a catalyst activation-determining unit determining an activated state of the catalytic converter; a compression-stroke slight-lean operation unit injecting fuel in a compression stroke by the fuel injection control unit and performing compression-stroke slight-lean operation; and an exhaust gas flow control unit restraining an exhaust gas flow in an exhaust passage. If the catalyst activation-determining unit determines the catalytic converter is not in the activated state, the compression-stroke slight-lean operation is performed by the compression-stroke slight-lean operation unit and also the exhaust gas flow in the exhaust passage is restrained by the exhaust gas flow control unit.
