PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cut flower freshness maintaining agent capable of extending the life of the cut flower by containing a mixture of a silver compound and an organic compound having a functional group capable of forming a water soluble complex with silver through sulfur atom. ;SOLUTION: This cut flower freshness maintaining agent is obtained by mixing (A) a silver compound (e.g. silver nitrate) with (B) an organic compound having a functional group capable of forming a water soluble complex with silver through sulfur atom [C=S, S=S, S(=S)=, P(=S)- and -S-], (e.g. thioketone, p-toluenesulfinic acid amide, dimethylthiosulfuric acid amide). The silver concentration in the above maintaining agent is 0.001-5 mM, and (1/100-1000) molar ratio of silver to the component (B) is preferable. Also, the pH 3-11 of the above maintaining agent is preferable. By immersing the cut end of the cut flower into the solution of the above maintaining agent, the life of the cut flower can be extended.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
