It regards the selective method of polarized light mode dispersing the fiber which uses the polarized light type optical time domain reflectiometer. Pulse radiation is emitted in the fiber for test, the rear the radiation which disperses is measured by POTDR, is used in order to obtain POTDR trace. Next, POTDR trace it is analyzed in order to compare with the fluctuation of the signal according to the length of the fiber. Fluctuation of this signal relation is attached to the level of PMD according to the length of the fiber. As for PMD of high level because it corresponds to the variability whose local level is low, the extent which is not allowance possible identifying the fiber which possesses high local PMD by setting the variability of threshold of the signal sufficiently low, it is possible to remove.
