PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the knowledge and knowhow of a mechanical system required for a designer of an optical system by calculating the optimal mechanical characteristic parameter of an optical instrument and giving the result to the designer. ;SOLUTION: Initial values of the analytic model of a mechanical system, the analytic model of an optical system and the mechanical characteristic parameter of an optical instrument are prepared (S1). The deforming state of optical parts is calculated by substituting the initial value of the mechanical characteristic parameter for the analytic model of a mechanical system (S2). Optical performance at the time of deformation of optical parts is calculated by using the analytic model of an optical system (S3). It is compared with the optical performance in the stationary state calculated in advance and whether or not the difference falls within the allowed value is judged (S4). If it does not fall within the allowed value ('No' in S4), the change of the optical performance is found, the optimizing calculation of the mechanical characteristic parameter is performed based on the result (S5), the value of the mechanical characteristic parameter is changed to the value obtained in S5 (S6).
