PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line-to-ground fault accident detection system and a line-to-ground fault accident detection method for power transmission line which can easily locate the line-to-ground fault accident steel tower or can specify the direction of the line-to-ground fault accident steel tower with complete prevention of a malfunction. PSOLUTION: The line-to-ground fault accident detection system 1 of the power transmission line 2 comprises the power transmission line 2 as described later, and the line-to-ground fault current detector 8 to detect the line-to-ground fault accident based on the line-to-ground fault current which flows through the steel towers n-2, n-1, n, n+1 and n+2 between the topmost part of the insulator 6 and the overhead earth wire 4. The power transmission line 2 is composed of the overhead earth wire 4 suspended by the upper part of the steel towers n-2, n-1, n, n+1 and n+2; and the power line 3 suspended below the overhead earth wire 4 by the steel towers n-2, n-1, n, n+1 and n+2, through the insulator 6 which isolates the power line 3 from the steel towers n-2, n-1, n, n+1 and n+2.
