PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image synthesis technique which is capable of saving an electric power consumption in a stage of obtaining a synthetic image formed by synthesizing a plurality of images. PSOLUTION: During an ordinary period when either of first and second input images 41 and 42 which are stored in an input-image storage section 144 are updated within a first predetermined period, a multilayer image synthesis section 150 synthesizes these images 41 and 42 and outputs the synthetic image to an LCD display panel 160. If neither of the first and second input images 41 and 42 are updated within the first predetermined period, the multilayer image synthesis section 150 not only outputs the synthetic image but also writes it in a synthetic-image storage section 146. If the first and second input images 41 and 42 are not updated and a second predetermined period elapses after the first predetermined period, then without synthesizing the first and second input images 41 and 42, the multilayer image synthesis section 150 reads the synthetic image which is stored in the synthetic-image storage section 146 and outputs it to the LCD display panel 160.
