General-purpose calculation method, and related encoding method and the electronic component which are applied to the point with respect to the elliptic curved line which is defined by quaternary equation

Universal calculation method for calculating using points on an elliptic curve, whereby the elliptic curve is represented as a quadratic equation, and identical programmed calculation means are used to add and double the points as well as for carrying out an addition with a neutral point. The calculation means comprise a central processing unit (2) with an associated memory (4, 6, 8). The invention also relates to use of the calculation method for a scalar multiplication method applied to the points of an elliptic curve, use of the inventive method in cryptography, and an electronic component, especially a chip card, with a cryptographic algorithm based on the inventive method.
