PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film having excellent optical characteristics so as to improve decrease in the contrast of a liquid crystal display in an oblique viewing direction or color shift or the like in a black display part when the display is viewed in an oblique direction.;SOLUTION: The optical compensation film satisfies condition (I): 3(nx-nz)/(nx-ny)8, wherein nx, ny, nz are refractive indices in direction of X, Y and Z axes of the optical compensation film, respectively. The X axis is the direction showing the maximum refractive index in the plane of the optical compensation film, whereas the Y axis is the direction perpendicular to the X axis in the plane and the Z axis is the thickness direction perpendicular to the X and Y axes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
