PURPOSE: To obtain n-vinyloxazolidones without using a subsidiary raw material and a solvent at one stage by subjecting an N-(1-alkyloxyalkyl)-2-oxazolidone to a vapor-phase intramolecular dealcoholization reaction. ;CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 is H, methyl or ethyl; R2 is methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl) is subjected to dealcoholization reaction in the presence of a solid oxide of the formula PaXbYc0d (X is an alkal (or alkaline earth) metal; Y is Ti, Zr, Nb, B, Al or Si; (a) to (d) are each atomic ratio of elements and when (a) is 1, (b) is 0-5, (c) is 1-500 and (d) is a value determined by the values of (a) to (c) and the bond states of the constituent elements) at 200-400°C under 5-600mmHg of the compound of formula I at 1-1000h-1 space velocity to give a compound of formula II. The compound of formula II is homopolymerized or copolymerized with another monomer into a polymer to give a poly-N-vinyl-2-oxozolidone useful as a raw material for a complex forming agent, an adhesive, a yarn modifier, a dyeing auxiliary, a resin additive, etc., and is useful a raw material monomer for its copolymer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
