PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closed deck type cylinder block and a method of manufacturing the closed deck type cylinder block which is compact and lightweight with excellent cooling efficiency and manufacturable without using a collapsible core.;SOLUTION: A cylinder sleeve 18 is inserted in a bore hole 14 of a block body 16, and the lower end parts of the cylinder body parts 28a-28c constituting the cylinder sleeve 18 are placed on annular step parts 26a-26c, while a large diameter part 34 is placed on a recessed part 32. At this time, a side peripheral wall part of the annular step part 36 abuts on the inner peripheral wall part of the bore hole 14, and then the peripheral edge part of the large diameter part 34 and the block body 16 are joined by friction agitation joining.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
