PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce variations in compensation of obliqueness of a carried sheet and to stably straight carry the sheet with improved accuracy. ;SOLUTION: When an obliquely carried document passes sensors 403-L, 403-R, a time difference is measured by a counter and the amount of control of a motor is determined to the time difference. The amount of control is adjusted by the carrying conditions judged by the characteristics of the document detected by the sensor. According to the amount of control, the number of revolution of the sensor 410-R or 401-L is reduced, or the number of revolution of the sensor 410-R is reduced and the number of revolution of the sensor 410-L is increased to compensate the obliqueness of the carried sheet. To check that the sheet goes straight after its obliqueness is compensated, a time difference of the rear end of the sheet is measured. This can reduce variations in compensation of obliqueness of the carried sheet and can carry straight the sheet with improved accuracy.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
