PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon fiber having excellent resin impregnation not only into an epoxy resin but also into a radical polymerization-based resin by imparting a compound containing a specific functional group and an epoxy group as a sizing agent to a carbon fiber and a carbon fiber reinforced resin composition by using the carbon fiber as a reinforcing fiber.;SOLUTION: A compound containing a functional group of formula I (R is H or an alkyl) and an epoxy group of formula II, preferably a glycidyl group at the molecular main chain ends, respectively is dispersed into water to give a sizing agent solution. A carbon fiber is coated with 0.1-5 wt.% of the sizing agent solution and sized. The sized carbon fiber is arranged in one direction to give a sheetlike material, which is subjected to heat fusion treatment with a heat fusing fiber at fixed intervals in the direction perpendicular to the arrangement direction. Otherwise, a heat fusing fiber cloth is laminated and heat fused to at least one side of the sheetlike material to give the objective carbon fiber sheetlike material for a carbon fiber reinforced resin composition.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
