PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rapidly and economically treat a large quantity of high water content sludge accumulated on the bottom of lakes and marshes, rivers or the shore of a harbor and a treatment method not generating land subsidence and not limiting the use of a landfill site. SOLUTION: In a treatment method adding a flocculant to high water dredging sludge to form floc and subsequently draining water by natural or mechanical dehydration, at first, a solidifying material is added and, next, the flocculant is added to form floc including solidifying material particles. Alternatively, at first, nonionic or anionic polymeric flocculant is added and, next, a solidifying material serving as an inorg. flocculant is added and, further, if necessary, the inorg. flocculant or a cationic flocculant is added to form floc including solidifying material particles.
