The wireless signal is processed using a rake receiver front end to provide a plurality of output front end.The channel estimation is performed on the plurality of outputs front end to obtain a plurality of channel estimates.The channel estimates are then used to combine the plurality of outputs front end in a combined signal. A transmitted signal is estimated using an equalizer and the combined signal.The equalizer includes a filter with a plurality of entries which are adapted by the use of an adaptive algorithm that uses a pilot estimated that is estimated from the wireless signal received.The pilot channel is transmitted in the wireless signal that includes at least one another channel. The pilot is extracted and provided to the estimated adaptive algorithm.
