The invention provides a novel series of synthetic human growth hormone releasing hormone (hGH-RH) (1-29) NH 2 - 2 antagonist analogues. These analogues inhibit endogenous human growth hormone (hGH-RH) activity at pituitary growth hormone releasing hormone (GH-RH) receptors and thereby prevent the release of growth hormone. The analogs also inhibit the proliferation of human cancer through a direct effect on cancer cells. The greater inhibitory strength of the new analogs, as compared to those described above, results from the substitution of various amino acids.
