"COMPOUND, METHODS TO TREAT A DISORDER, TO DEMONSTRATE THE PRESENCE OF CRF RECEIVERS IN CELL OR TISSUE SAMPLES, AND TO INHIBIT THE CONNECTION OF CRF TO A CRF1 RECEIVER, PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION", AND. Substituted heteroaryl fused pyridine, pyrazine and pyrimidine compounds acting as selective CRF1 receptor modulators are provided. These compounds are useful in treating various CNS and peripheral disorders, particularly stress, anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disorders, and eating disorders. Methods of treating such disorders as well as packaged pharmaceutical compositions are also provided. The compounds of the invention are also useful as probes for CRF receptor localization and as standards in assays for CRF receptor binding. Methods of using the compounds in receptor localization studies are given.
