In the present invention, there is disclosed a method for axial clearance adjustment of a system of two tapered roller bearings (2, 6), i.e. an internal tapered roller bearing (6) and an external tapered roller bearing (2), and toothed wheel (11) interposed therebetween, wherein in functional state the bearings being put on a conical driving pinion (10) of particularly traction vehicle gearbox input section along with spacer rings (1, 5) intended to adjust clearance thereof and pressed by a thrust element in the direction toward a bevel gearing of the driving pinion (10) wherein said system is secured in axial direction in its position by a securing element. First, the system is put freely, without the spacer rings (1, 5) onto a shaft of the conical driving pinion (10) and subsequently it is pressed in the direction toward the bevel gearing thereof up to the extreme position in which the internal tapered roller bearing (6) bears against a gearbox body (17) wall, whereupon a distance between outer race of the external tapered roller bearing (2) and a thrust face of the securing element, for instance a bearing cover (16), is measured in functional position thereof. Subsequently, the distance rings (1, 5) corresponding exactly to the above-measured distance are produced in such a manner that the sum of their thicknesses corresponds to that measured distance, the system is then disassembled and then put again along with the manufactured spacer rings (1, 5) onto the shaft to thereby adjusting axial clearance thereof.
