The present invention describes a process of preparation of an alkali stable cellulase from a novel Thermomonospora sp. Processing a 16SrDNA sequence showing 97% homology to Thermomonospora sp. mesouviformis. Thermomonospora sp. Grows optimally in the pH range of 8.5 to 10.0 and a temperature of 45 to 55oC. The growth conditions for growth of alkalothermophilic Thermomonospora sp.(MTCC 5117) is different from the reported Thermomonospora sp. The organism secretes a stable cellulase and active at a broad pH range of 4 to 10 when grown in a medium containing a nitrogen source and cellulosic carbon source. The process also describes the separation of the solid biomass from the extracellular culture filtrate by conventional methods, optionally stabilizing the extra cellular culture filtrate having endoglucanase as well as xylanase activity using conventional preservatives. The culture filtrate may have possible application in textile industry due to the complement of characters it processes.
