a) increases number of interfaces (TiO2-nano particle, TiO2-binder, nano-binder, TiO2-air , air-nano, binder-air) resulting in high degree of scattering. b) increases refractive index difference contributing to hiding by nano particles. At very small concentration, the incorporation reduces expensive TiO2 requirement and increases hiding power of paint. We investigated various formulations incorporating nano particles for fulfilling the above objectives. It was observed that with reduction in particle size, the nano particle could achieve same effect over wider range. Other mechanical and optical properties renain unaffected.
