Abstract:The invention relates to a method for monitoring a technical installation (24), inparticular for carrying out diagnosis, comprising the following steps, acquiring datain respect of temparature values and other associated temperature informationrelated to the technical installation, the acquired data being failure dependence dataselected by an expert system (6) based on interaction knowledge between plantcomponents, and deriving at least one temperature pattern (7) related to a currentoperating situation of the technical installation (24) from said acquired failure-dependence data, comparing at least one derived temperature pattern (7) to at leastone of a known failure temperature pattern and a stored failure temperature patternand a process disturbance temperature pattern related to a specific operatingsituation of the technical installation (24), the known failure temperature patternincluding the currently acquired failure-data being consistently updated byemploying an expert system (6) during operation of the plant so as to ensure anadaptive monitoring and comparison of the at least one derived temperature pattern(7), classifying the current operating situation in terms of at least a normal andstationary, a transient and tolerable, and an abnormal and dangerous operatingsituation of the technical installation (24) based upon said comparison, includingdetermining the degree of similarity between the current temperature pattern andthe known updated temperature pattern.
