The composition is for trapping flying insects and comprises at least 3-methyl butane acid (iso-valerian acid), involving a trap into which insects are enticed. Within the composition is a lactic acid component, and it also contains a carbonic acid in accordance with the formula R1-COOH, in which R1 consists of a saturated and/or ramified C1-C22 alkyl group. The composition is a watery solution containing an ammonium (NH3) component. The carbonic acid is selected from propane acid (R1=C2), butane acid (R1=C3), hexane acid (R1=C5), heptane acid (R1=C6), and myristine acid (R1=C13). The composition is particularly suitable for trapping mosquitos. Also, a carbon dioxide component is contained in the composition for diffusion in the ambient air.
