The plunger (16) comprises a ferromagnetic material and the float (22) comprises at least one magnet (21). As the level of liquid rises and falls the magnet is made to move along a defined trajectory and as its magnetic field approaches the plunger, the latter is made to move in a first direction and open the closure part (13). As the magnet moves further along this trajectory the closure part moves in a second direction and the closure part is returned to its closed position. The valve (6) comprises a vessel (11) with an inlet (3, 4) and outlet (5) for the liquid, a dosing device with a closure part for sealing the outlet and a float for moving the closure part between open and closed positions. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing the drain valve, comprising moving at least one additional magnet on the outside of the vessel in order to move the float magnet.
