The trolley (10A-10E) includes a battery (130), a battery recharger, a locking pin (142A-142E) at the end of a chain (141A, 141B) or cable for securing inside a lock casing (141A, 141B) also provided on the trolley, and a sliding contact (154). The chain/cable and pin are electrically conductive and the lock casing contains a contact bushing for providing electrical contact with a pin inserted into it. The bushing is electrically connected to the chain/cable. The recharger is connected to the bushing and sliding contact. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) Bay (170) for shopping trolleys, comprising a contact rail extending in the bay length direction, an electrically conductive pin secured to a fixed point via an electrically conductive chain or cable and a power supply with one output pole connected to the rail and the other connected to the chain/cable; and (B) Shopping system comprising the bay and at least one trolley, the contact on the trolley being adapted to make contact with the rail, the locking pin associated with the bay being adapted to be secured inside the lock casing on the trolley and the recharger being adapted to be powered by the bay power supply so that the battery is automatically recharged when the trolley is parked in the bay.
