A method of colorimetry by which reliable analysis can be performed in a short time. An aqueous solution containing a bipyridyl copper complex and glucose dehydrogenase is infiltrated into a filter paper and this paper is dried. When a sample, e.g., blood, is dropped on this paper, the bipyridyl copper complex assumes a red-brown colour depending on the glucose concentration. The colour is measured. Since this reaction is a one-stage reaction, it occurs in as short a time as up to 5 seconds. The found value is highly reliable because this reaction needs neither hydrogen peroxide nor oxygen. The graph shows the dependence of reflectance on glucose concentration in a sample.
