The invention relates to a process for protecting the cable routes against the effects of fire and to the way of laying cable routes suitably protected against fire effects. The claimed process for protecting the cable routes against fire effects provides for the application of a heat-expandable material on the cables (4) and the cable holding sections (3, 7, 8, 9) comprised in a cable route, said heat-expandable material forming the protective insulating layers (12, 15), at least in the cable attaching area the cables (4) and the cable holding sections (3, 7, 8, 9) being wrapped or embedded in a carrier material (10, 11) whereon the expandable material forming the protective insulating layers (12, 13) are applied in order to improve the adhesion thereof after foaming.
