Noise signals from the network are analysed electronically to see how the different signal frequency components vary with time. This variance is indicated to allow personnel to distinguish between different noise signals in order to locate the leaks. Variance can be indicated via headphones, a loudspeaker or a computer monitor or other display. The amplitude and frequency content of the noise signals from the leaks and the background noise are analysed electronically.
