A shock absorber unit is fitted to furniture doors, drawers or similar moving components and has a hydraulic cylinder with a piston (25) and connecting rod (5). The piston sub-divides the cylinder chamber into two and has apertures and/or forms a link passage with the cylinder wall. The connecting rod has a guide bush within a compressible elastic tubular component (10) and a wider end-section. The guide bush and cap are esp. made of a single piece of material.
