Apparatus for drying sewage sludge comprises a drum drier (3) which is fed with hot gas from a burner via a first heat exchanger (2). A dust separator (4) is mounted downstream from the drier and this is connected to a condenser (5). One gas pipe (10) leads from the condenser to the burner, while a second (20) connects it to the heat exchanger. A pipe (19) from the dust separator connects it to this second pipe. An independent claim is included for a method for drying sewage sludge using the apparatus.
