The internal combustion engine has at least two groups of cylinders preferably at an angle to one another, and with an induction system with least one feed pipe (4) opening into an inlet manifold (2). Each cylinder is connected through at least one inlet pipe (6,8) to an inlet manifold common to several cylinders. The flow path inside the inlet manifold between the mouth (5) of the feed pipe opening into the manifold and the entry (7,9) into the inlet pipe is constructed the same for each inlet pipe. : Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an operating device for a slide adjustable between at least two end positions, especially in the induction tract of an internal combustion engine; and (B) a method for the running of an internal combustion engine in which the speed, duration and/or commencement of a switching process to change the air-fuel ratio is adapted to the full and empty characteristic of the induction system.
