A method for assigning timeslots for a particular cell of a hybrid communication system with time division multiple access / code division multiple access, the system having a plurality of cells comprising the particular cell and other cells, characterizing the method comprising: determining potentially interfering cells potentially interfere with the particular cell by estimating base station interfering cells (301- 3011) to base station (301-3011) using link gains premeasured between base stations (301- 3011 ) (77, 79, 124, 144, 172, 186); for each timeslot, eliminate that timeslot for uplink communication if a potentially interfering cell uses that timeslot for downlink communications (80); for each timeslot, eliminate that timeslot for downlink communication if a potentially interfering cell uses that timeslot for uplink communications (82); assigning a timeslot to an uplink communication of the particular cell using segmen cough not eliminated for uplink time; and assigning a timeslot to a downlink communication of the particular cell using non-eliminated timeslots for downlink.
