An occluder (10; 30) for sealing a puncture in a blood vessel, the occluder held against the vessel wall by applying a retraction force from outside the blood vessel to the central part (11 being; 31) of the occluder in which said central portion (11; 31) is of elongated shape having two longitudinal edges, and that the central part has long (Lcp¿) exceeding the diameter of the puncture in the direction blood vessel and less than the diameter of the puncture in the transverse to the direction of blood and characterized vessel direction width that said means for occluding (10; 30) further comprises an edge portion (12; 32) provided at least along each longitudinal edge of the central part; said central portion having higher structural stiffness than the rim portion and the occluder is provided with a surface generally flat (14) which extend on partecentral and the edge portion to contact with the inner wall blood vessel around the puncture.
