Red blood cell composition comprising: (a) RBCs, (b) a combination of reagents biochemical modification selected from the group consisting of pentoxifylline, flurbiprofen, nicotinamide, nikethamide, nifedipine, amiloride, taxol, cytochalasin B, trehalose and ribose and ( c) one or more cryoprotectants agents, and further comprising a compound for storage; and optionally comprising a protease inhibitor and / or a bioflavonoid or bioflavonoid derivative.
