Disclosed is a composite wood structure including(a) first and second spaced layers, and (b) a coreinterposed between the layers. A sheet-like vaporbarrier is between the layers and limits migration ofmoisture through the barrier to less than about 6 gramsper square meter of barrier area per hour. The woodstructure is thereby made warp-resistant. In anotherembodiment, the structure has a vapor barrier on anouter surface and may have one or more additional vaporbarriers between structure layers. Preferred vaporbarrier materials include melamine formaldehydeimpregnated paper, phenol formaldehyde impregnatedpaper, thermoset materials, thermoplastic materials andaluminum foil.
