A process of synthesizing a compound of formula (1)is described. A compound of formula (2) is reacted withdiphenylphosphinic chloride to activate the carboxylic acidgroup, and then reacted with methanesulfonyl chloride toproduce a compound of formula (4). Compound (4) is thenreacted with a group II metal sulfide source in water toproduce a compound of formula (1).
