A GRAPHICAL METHOD FOR DESIGNING THE TRAJECTORY OF A WELL BORE

The present invention provides a graphical method to design and modify thetrajectory of a well bore. A well bore trajectory plan is comprised of holdand curvesections. Hold sections are generally described by specifying the attitude ofthe hold andthe length of the hold. Curve sections can be described and represented in avariety ofways. The present invention introduces control points that are formed at theintersectionof extensions/projections of the two hold sections contacting a curve section.The holdsections contact the curve section at tangent points. The tangent points for acurvesection have the same distance to the control point. In operation, as acontrol point ismoved, the direction and inclination of multiple sections of the well plan aresimultaneously modified. These simultaneous modifications enable the user toquicklyand intuitively modify a well plan.
