The invention relates to a method for determining the structure of acommunication network (N), consisting of a plurality of network elements (NEx)joined by physical connections (PVx). The inventive method is characterised inthat an attribute (Ax) is stored at a terminal (EPx) of a connection (PVx), ineach network element (NEx), said attribute containing all of the informationrelating to the network element (NEx) adjoined by means of said connection(PVx). The structure of the entire network (N) is determined by means of theinformation contained in the attributes (Ax) of the connection terminals (EPx).
