The invention provides a set of genes or gene sequences comprising at least 2genes and the use of said set of genes or gene sequences for the determinationof intestinal health, and/or disease of an animal or a human. The inventionfurther provides methods to detect the presence or absence of an intestinaldisease in an animal or a human comprising measuring, in a sample of saidanimal or human, expression levels of a set of genes or gene sequencesaccording to the invention, or a gene specific fragment of said genes andcomparing said expression levels with a reference value such as the expressionlevels of said set of genes in a sample of intestinal tissue of an healthyanimal or human.
