The invention concerns a method whereby an intermediate phase coating isformed by chemical vapour infiltration (CVI) on the fibers constituting afibrous preform, the intermediate phase coating comprising at least oneinternal embrittlement relief layer of the composite material, in contact withthe fibers, and an external adherence layer with the ceramic matrix. Thefibrous preform is then maintained in its shape with the fibers provided withan intermediate phase coating, and reinforced by being impregnated with aliquid composition containing a ceramic precursor, and transformation of theprecursor into a reinforcing phase of ceramic matrix. The reinforced preformis then densified by a complementary ceramic matrix phase. No maintenancetools are required for forming the intermediate phase coating by CVI or fordensifying after reinforcement by liquid process.
