COMPUTER NETWORK MANAGEMENT USING AGENT-BASED DISTRIBUTED REASONING

The present invention describes methodology for using agent-based distributed reasoning to manage a computer network. In particular, the system includes interface agents (201) to integrate event streams (205), distributed reasoning agents (202) and response agents (203) which run on hosts (200) in the network. An interface agent (201) monitors a resource in the network and reports an event to an appropriate distributed reasoning agent (202). The distributed reasoning agent (202), using one or more knowledge bases, determines a response to the event. An appropriate response agent (203) implements the response. Characteristics of the reasoning agent include working together collaboratively, as well as implementing parallel algorithms.
