The invention relates to a method for producing a novel self-lubricating metal matrix composite material, whereby Sn powder, Cu-coated MoS2 powder and optionally Cu powder are mixed in a mixing step and compacted at high temperatures. The invention is characterized in that prior to compaction reinforcing materials, preferably crystalline or powdery carbides, nitrides, borides, oxides and/or fibers on a carbon basis, especially carbon fibers, especially pitch-type carbon fibers or carbon fibers produced according to the pitch method, are added or admixed and that compaction or sintering is carried out at a target temperature in the range between 420° and 720°, preferably between 500° and 600°, especially between 535° and 565°, especially at approximately 550°.
