A highly durable device for removing an underground obstacle, a digging unit, and a method of removing an underground obstacle by using the device are provided under an idea that is completely different from that of a claw structure of a conventional technique. A chuck claw is curved so as to project, by a claw drive means, along a hole to the inner side of a casing, and a member that forms the hole has a certain thickness. When a downward load is applied to the chuck claw, an inner side section of the casing is brought, at the lower part of the hole, to be in contact with the chuck claw and an outer surface side section of the casing is brought, at the upper part of the hole, to be in contact with the chuck claw, and thereby the downward load is supported.
