METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PURIFYING SOIL OR WATER CONTAMINATED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL HORMONE

It is intended to provide an economical and practically usable method suitable for purifying soil or water environment contaminated over a wide range with an environmental hormone at a low concentration. Namely, a method for purifying soil or water contaminated with an environmental hormone characterized by comprising growing a plant belonging to the genus Portulaca in the soil or growing a plant belonging to the genus Portulaca by the hydroponic method with the use of the water as a medium and thus allowing the plant belonging to the genus Portulaca to absorb and degrade the environmental hormone in the soil or the water. It is preferable that the plant belonging to the genus Portulaca is a garden plant such as portulaca or rose moss or green purslane that is a weed. The environmental hormone is selected from the group consisting of bisphenol A, dioxin, co-PCB, nonylphenol, octylphenol, estradiol, phthalic acid esters, benzophenone, DDT, DDE and combinations thereof. It is also intended to provide a system for carrying out the above method in practice.
