The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a finely dispersed fuel cloud, more particularly for providing a high-combustibility air-fuel mixture for a heating device (25) in a motor vehicle. According to the invention, an ultrasonic oscillator is submerged in liquid fuel (3) in a chamber (1) partially filled therewith, and a fuel column with an exposed fuel surface (4) is formed above the ultrasonic oscillator (2), the operating frequency of the ultrasonic oscillator (2) being such that tiny fuel particles (5) become detached at the surface (4) and a fuel cloud forms in the chamber (1).
