The invention relates to animal food for aquatic animals and/or reptiles, containing, in the ready-to-use state thereof, between 78 and 99 % of starch carriers, between 1 and 20 % of protein carriers, between 0 and 7 % of fat or oil constituents, between 0 and 15 % of water, between 0 and 2 % of flavouring agents, between 0 and 1 % of dyestuffs, and between 0 and 0.1 % of antioxidants. Said animal food is characterised in that it is obtained by means of an extrusion process at a material temperature lower than approximately 105 °C, with the addition of a defined quantity of water, and is divided into rehydratable food portions having a shape and size which enable the individual portions to be held with fingers, such that the individual food portions can be easily fed to aquatic animals or reptiles by hand. As far as possible, at least 0.05 % of flavouring agents and/or chemical attractants should be homogeneously incorporated into said animal food.
