A transportation system and a transportation method. The transportation system comprises a siphon tube (S) sucking out dredged sediment (1) in a large capacity water storage pond (D) such as a dam together with water by a siphon action and a natural flow-down route (P) arranged continuously to the downstream end of the siphon tube (S) and naturally flowing down a fluid including the dredged sediment (1) and the water sucked out by the tube (S) to a sea (O) or a river (R) near the sea by utilizing the gravity. The natural flow-down route (P) comprises a plurality of pipelines (Pp) vertically arranged in a row and relay pits (Pm) interposed between these adjacent pipelines (Pp), temporarily storing the fluid flowing down from the upstream side pipeline (Pp), and releasing it into the downstream side pipeline (Pp). Thus, a large volume of sediment deposited at the bottom of the large capacity water storage pond such as the dam can be efficiently discharged to the sea or the river near the sea a rather low cost and with a rather less energy so that the effects thereof on the natural environments can be minimized.
