AUTOMATED DEFINITION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF BUSINESS PROCESSES

A method and apparatus for defining and implementing a process such that it can be executed across multiple computer system environments and with different resources. The process is defined by generating process definition data specifying a process intent as a function of an ordered series of activities, each activity being associated with at least one action invoked by a defined event occurring during execution of that activity, each activity being executable in at least one computer system environment and including at least one data input and/or data output step. The execution is defined by generating configuration definition data identifying at least one specification of computer system environment and resource required for execution of each of the respective activities in the process definition data. During run time, the process intent specified by the process definition data is executed using a number of resources in different computer system environments by reference to the configuration definition data.
