An elongated slot press is disclosed for dewatering a paper, cardboard, tissue or other fibrous substance web (1) in a machine for producing and/or upgrading the same. The elongated slot press comprises a compression roller (4) with a flexible outer surface (9) and a compression element (6) with a concave compression surface which presses the outer surface (9) of the roller against a cylindrical mating roller (5) to form an elongated press slot, the diameter of the press roller (4) being smaller than 1 m. This is intended to permit, in the smallest space possible and with a relatively high compression impulse, the diameter of the mating roller (5) to measure more than 0.8 m, and the ratio between the length (L) of the compression surface in the web running direction (11) and the diameter of the compression roller (4) to be higher than 0.15.
